FRICTION WELDING SYSTEM and DRILL PIPE PLANT
 
A processed internal (external) coupling shall be welded on the processed pipe body. The purpose of which is to improve the strength of the welding, thus increasing the lifetime of the drill pipe. Compared with other welding method, the friction welding features high efficiency, low energy consumption, narrow thermal-affected area at axial direction, even metal particle, high strength, and wide scope of weldable steel types, no need of preheating for welding, no gas protection, and no waste gas in welding and compact equipment structure.

Technological flow sheet for drill pipe prodction 
After upsetting, the pipe body of drill pipe is lifted from middle warehouse to the charging rack of production line, and then kicked in and cross transfer, the ID, OD, and end face of one pipe end are lathed on a specialized lathe. After the scraps and dust are removed, the butt welding of coupling and pipe is done on position of flywheel friction welding; after the welding completed, internal weld flash is firstly removed, and then the external weld is removed. Before external flash removing, the weld should be annealed firstly. After the external flash is cut off, quenching & tempering treatment to the weld is to be done to achieve the required mechanical & structural property.
 
After the heat treatment, the steel tube continues to move forward. The internal and external weld bead is finish lathed and grinded, and then inspect, at inspection skid, the welding concentricity, hardness and NDT. After all items are inspected as qualified, screw down the internal and external protection rings, and measure length, weigh and mark. Finally, apply paint on the external surface of steel tube, bundle up and transport to the finished products warehouse.
